What's Behind Us Shapes Us, But It Doesn't Have to Define Us.

What's Behind Us Shapes Us, But It Doesn't Have to Define Us.

I have been thinking about life and all the experiences that have brought me to where I am today, including the good ones, the difficult ones, the ones that brought laughter and joy, and the ones that brought lessons I might not have chosen for myself.

Oh, the stories we could all tell! Lol!

When I look back on my life, I do not particularly care to dwell on the past; after all, I cannot go back and change it, but I can certainly learn from it, and I believe that is where some of life's greatest opportunities for growth can be found.

Our past experiences help shape who we are, but they do not have to determine who we become, as every experience has the potential to teach us something.

Sometimes we learn what brings us happiness, what we need to change, strengths we did not even realize we had, or what we never want to experience or repeat again.

Not every lesson comes wrapped in a beautiful package; some arrive through disappointment, mistakes, heartbreak, or circumstances beyond our control, but even those experiences can offer opportunities for understanding, wisdom, and growth.

One thing I hope I never lose is my willingness to keep learning, growing, adapting, and overcoming, as well as the ability to recognize when I need to make changes and have the courage to make them.

Here is something I find encouraging: as long as we are here, our story is still being written.

We do not have to remain the same person we were five years ago, five months ago, or even yesterday, because we can gain new perspectives, develop healthier habits, reconsider old beliefs, acknowledge our mistakes, take responsibility for our choices, and make an effort to do better.

Yes, sometimes we may stumble along the way because we are human, after all, but stumbling does not mean we have to stop moving forward.

I believe our choices matter, as they can create consequences, both good and bad, and sometimes those consequences become lessons of their own.

While we cannot control everything life brings our way, we can continue working toward making thoughtful choices about how we respond and what we do next, and I think there is something incredibly empowering about that.

I do not want to become so comfortable with who I am today that I stop being curious about who I could become tomorrow, not because I believe I need to be perfect—goodness gracious, no!—but because I believe there is always room for growth, always something new to learn, and always another opportunity to practice patience, kindness, courage, understanding, or compassion.

I wish that for others, too; I hope we never lose the desire to become better versions of ourselves, whatever that may look like for each of us, and I hope we find the courage to move forward when life feels difficult and the wisdom to learn from our experiences. The strength to make changes when they are needed. And the grace to recognize that growth is a lifelong journey, not a destination.

As for me? I am still learning, still growing, and still figuring some things out, and probably always will be! But I would not want it any other way, because I do not believe my best days of becoming have to be behind me.

What is behind me has helped shape me, what is ahead of me offers opportunities to keep growing, and what I choose to do today is part of the person I am becoming.

May we continue moving forward with courage in our hearts, kindness in our actions, and a willingness to learn along the way.

Wishing you peace, love, joy, and kindness.

Until next time...

Be kind to yourself and Be Your Own Kind Of FabYOUlous 💐🙏🦋
