I still play dress-up.

I still play dress-up.

👋🤩 Hello, FabYOUlous!

To this day, I still play dress-up.

Yep, I said it! I love putting outfits together and imagining all the places I could wear them; in my imagination, I apparently have a very busy social calendar. In reality, I would usually prefer to stay in the comfort of my own home, but that has never stopped me from enjoying the fun of creating an outfit.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that so much of life begins with getting dressed.

Whether we are putting on our favorite loungewear for a cozy day at home, jeans and a cute top to run errands, an outfit for work, something fun for a date night, or a beautiful dress for one of life's biggest celebrations, we dress for the moments we are about to live.

Sometimes the outfit is practical, sometimes it is expressive, and sometimes it is just plain fun, but I believe what we wear can bring out a little piece of our personality and spirit.

An outfit can make us feel playful, confident, glamorous, comfortable, bold, feminine, or edgy—or maybe a mixture of all of them—and sometimes an outfit becomes part of a memory.

I still have the outfit I wore on my first date with my husband back in October 1996. I also still have two dresses he loved seeing me wear back then, and of course, I still have my wedding dress.

Those are not just clothes to me; they are pieces of my story.

My husband even remembers what I was wearing the very first time he saw me. At the time, I was a bartender and he was a police officer—he still is—and he came through the bar where I worked to do a check. Neither one of us could have known then where life was going to take us, yet all these years later, he still remembers seeing me and what I was wearing. How sweet is that?

When I look back through different seasons of my life, I can remember so many outfits connected to special moments.

I can picture what I wore, I can remember where I was going, and I can remember the people who were there; sometimes, remembering the outfit brings back feelings and little details I might have otherwise forgotten.

Maybe that is one of the reasons I have always loved fashion so much.

For me, it has never been only about clothes; it is creativity, personality, imagination, confidence, and memories.

Sometimes it is putting together a fabulous outfit for an imaginary event that I have absolutely no intention of leaving my house to attend.

Because who says we have to have somewhere to go before we enjoy getting dressed?

Maybe the outfit can come first and the plans can follow, and if the plans never happen, well, we still got to play dress-up.

So, wear the outfit that feels like you, create memories in it, take the picture, and save a special piece or two if they mean something to you, because you never know: someday that dress, sweater, pair of jeans, or fabulous pair of shoes may remind you of a chapter of your life you never want to forget.

Until next time, Be kind to yourself and Be Your Own Kind of FabYOUlous. 💐🙏🦋
